Trigger Warnings: Self-Harm
Age 8: “Why do you have hair on your lip, is that a moustache?”
Age 9: “Why are you darker than your sister and why does she look more Asian than you?”
Age 10: *looking at the red stretch marks on my knees* “What is that, are you cutting yourself? You can’t be skinny and have stretch-marks.”
Age 11: “Shame, you actually look pretty today.”
Age 12: “You should just shave your legs.”
Age 13: “Where is your bum?”
Age 14: “Is it even hygienic that you don’t wax your vagina?”
Age 15: “I like you hair better when you straighten it.”
Age 16: “Shame, if you were taller you could have modelled.”
Age 17: “Your legs are so skinny it looks like you’re knock-kneed.”
Age 21: *Puts on a swimsuit* “My child, you must have those stretch-marks lasered.”
Last year when I gained 5kg: “Maybe you’re just big-boned."
